Dentures
Dentures are prosthetic teeth attached to a gum-coloured acrylic base. They stay attached to your gums through a combination of natural suction and a special adhesive. They allow you to get back most of the biting power you had when your natural teeth were still a part of your grin. Simply wear them throughout the day and place them in a glass of water or denture cleanser overnight to clean them and give your gums a rest.
Your Options for Dentures
You might think of dentures as a full set of artificial teeth resting in a glass of water, but it turns out there are a few different types of dentures. These include:
Partial Dentures
If you are only missing a few teeth in a row, you could benefit from partial dentures. These artificial teeth are held in place with a wire that goes behind your remaining pearly whites.
Full Dentures
When most people picture dentures, they picture full dentures. These are used if you are missing all of your teeth on one or both arches. They replace an entire arch of teeth and are held in place with adhesive or by natural suction.
Implant retained Dentures
While ill-fitting traditional dentures might slip around in the mouth, you don’t have to worry about that with implant-retained dentures. These are anchored in place with dental implants, which are firmly rooted in your jawbone to provide incredible stability that dentures alone often cannot deliver.
