Founded in 1982 by Dr. William P. Magee Jr. and his wife Kathy Magee, Operation Smile is a non-profit medical service organisation whose aim is to reduce the occurrence of cleft lips and palates worldwide. Aside from providing cleft lip and palate repair surgeries to underprivileged children worldwide, it develops ambassadorships to raise awareness of cleft issues; sponsors a world care program for international cases requiring special care, organises foundations worldwide to assist countries in reaching self-sufficiency with cleft surgeries, and develops and administers worldwide education programs related to cleft issues.
As part of Operation Smile International’s efforts to provide cleft lip and palate repair surgeries worldwide to underprivileged children, Dr. Aaron Hoo has been an extensive volunteer for the organisation, traveling to Uzbekistan as part of the surgical and dental team to help serve and improve the lives of such affected children.
