Dental Crown

What Are
Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are customised caps that are made to fit over the biting surface of a damaged or severely discoloured tooth. It restores the structure, strength, and size of the affected tooth. With crowns, you won’t experience any discomfort while you’re eating or speaking, such as sensitivity to hot or cold foods.

While dental crowns can be made from several different materials, patients typically prefer natural-looking ceramic and porcelain. They’re able to mimic the appearance of tooth enamel by reflecting light, allowing them to seamlessly fit in with the rest of your smile. They can also be custom-shaded to look identical to your natural teeth so you won’t have to worry about your crowns detracting from your appearance.

Why Do I Need a Dental Crown?

If we suggest a dental crown in Newlife Dental to preserve your smile, it could be for a variety of reasons. Many patients aren’t aware of how versatile these restorations are. Here are some common scenarios in which we may suggest getting a dental crown:

Asset 4

Severe Decay

If you have a large dental filling that has removed a lot of your natural tooth enamel, we may suggest holding it in place with a dental crown.

Asset 3

Trauma

Accidents happen, and cracked or broken teeth can increase your risk of developing oral health problems. In these cases, we may suggest strengthening and protecting your tooth with a crown.

Asset 2

Root Canal Therapy

Once a tooth becomes infected, it may need root canal therapy to stop the pain and preserve your natural tooth. After the treatment, we typically place a dental crown over the top of your tooth for added support and strength.

Asset 1

Fixed Bridges

Bridges are used to replace consecutive missing teeth. On either side of the replacement teeth, dental crowns are placed to hold the restoration in place.
